As much as I long the for the longer days and Spring blooms, I really do love the winter months for reading. If you’re looking for ways to pass the time, here are a few creative reading suggestions for you. I would love to know if you have any suggestions?
Women Living Deliciously (Non-Fiction) – Florence Given
As someone who hasn’t read “women don’t owe you pretty” this was my first introduction to this author and I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It gave me a kick up the backside to stop waiting around and DO something. I ended up applying for a TV show so I’m very curious how it might affect others!
If you’re in a creative slump or feel like you aren’t good enough to put yourself out there – I would definitely recommend the book. Alternatively, you can watch her Podcast episodes on YouTube for free. I’ve linked my favourite episode here 👇
The Artists Way (Non-Fiction) – Julia Cameron
My Mum gifted me this book for Christmas and although I had never heard of it, apparently it’s very well known amongst creatives. She bought it for me when I was struggling to get into the studio as she heard it was good for artists block.
I won’t lie to you, I was skeptical. But here I am, sat in a cafe on my artists date writing this blog after doing my morning pages…if you know, you know!
The book starts off talking a lot about higher powers and religion which I found quite off putting so I decided every time the word ‘God’ was mentioned to replace it with ‘muse’ which made it much more palatable. I can’t give you a review on the whole book as I’m still working my way through it and currently on week 1 out of 6…but I hope to report back soon!

The Artist (Fiction) – Lucy Steeds
I asbolutely LOVED this book. It’s easily become one of my top 5 favourites of all time.
Set in Provencial France in the 1920’s with the occasional mention of real artists during that time. I could feel the warmth of the sun through the book and was completely transported. The way the author talks about paint, art and being a woman during that time…if you love traditional art just trust me and read this book!
